Ullswater 2024

We are on going back to Ullswater on the 10-12 May 2024

This trip is run for by George P meaning that you are responsible for your party, including booking camping and boat transportation as it isn’t a club event and the organisers are not responsible for getting you there.

As a this isn’t a club event the organiser has state that if you were sailing, you must be at the ability level of RYA Basic Skills (Level 2). Ullswater is one of the larger lakes in the Lake District which is just out side Penrith (around 2.5 – 3 hours away from the club). The campsite that we stay on is Parkfoot Campsite which is located at the Pooley Bridge end of the lake, if you camp on the Lakeside or Euseriggs fields you have the option when you book to bring a boat, this is charged at £5 a night, but includes everything you need to get on the water.

The slip way is about a 250m walk away from the campsite, but the majority is a tarmac road which leads down to the waters edge. With regards to safety of the sailors, George P will be taking his RIB which can use for recovery and towing of boats if there’s a sudden lack of wind.
If the winds are favourable we may sail the whole length of the lake (around 14 miles there and back), however there may be a number of people that want to just have a potter round and not venture all the way down. There is a decent half way point on the lake where we can stop for a bite to eat, which can be used for a lunch stop or a turn round point.

The plan for evening meals is sort your self out with food or eat out, however often on the Saturday night we have in the past done a BBQ where you can cook your own food (you may wish to bring your own BBQ with you). If you need extra food the on-site shop sells food and drinks, or you can venture into Penrith (15 minute by car).

If you’re interested in joining us next year please speak to George P and he’ll be more than happy to talk about the weekend with you.
